At Pine Knob Organic Farm, our commitment to ecologically beneficial practices and regenerative agricultural principles goes far beyond our holistic land management practices. As part of our commitment to improve eliminate farm inputs, in 2014 we decided to purchase a photovoltaic system and cut ties with the power company. While we have always depended upon the sun to grow the feed and hay for our pastured livestock, our twelve solar panels allow Pine Knob to run 100% on sunshine. Although we sometimes have to rely on our backup generator during long winter weeks of grey, our solar system is able to meet most all of our farm and household needs during the spring, summer, and fall. Our solar panels keep our fences hot, our water pumping, and our freezers cold all year long. We are proud to claim the title of a sun-powered farm.
